Longhurst Hardy Plankton Recorder LHPR
The Longhurst Hardy Plankton Recorder (LHPR) is a Plankton sampling system in which the plankton is collected between two layers of fine gauze. It can collect plankton from a depth of 1000m up to the surface and is controlled by our Down Wire Net Monitor system. This allows us to “tell” the LHPR when and how often it is advancing the gauze, catching an other plankton sample. As the gauze is stored on a big spool, by unwinding it afterwards, the scientist can identify, which animals and how much plankton where at the different depth, the LHPR took a sample. As it can store more than 100 sample, the LHPR can be used to get fine resolution samples through the water column.
