About iSTAR

iSTAR is a £7.4m programme that directly relates to the delivery of the NERC climate systems and Earth system science themes and aims to improve understanding of the key ice sheet and ocean processes that affect ice sheet stability. The programme will focus on the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, with an emphasis in the Amundsen Sea sector and Pine Island Glacier.

The announcement of opportunity closed at 1600 on 22 March 2011. Three proposals have been funded from spring 2013; further announcements of opportunity may be made.

NERC have appointed the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) to the science management of the Ice Sheet Stability Research Programme (iSTAR), including ship-borne and traverse-supported activities.
